Introduction
SENS does not provide any printer services. However, users on our systems can print to any of the network print queues provided by CIT.
Please Note: If you are trying to print from the dorms or apartments the directions below will not work. The only way to access the public printers from the dorms or apartments is by using the UBiquity Citrix servers.

Before using the public printers, it is really important that you understand how the campus iPrint@UB system works; please refer to the iPrint@UB web page for necessary information about iPrint@UB.
Available Print Queues for SENS Users
The following CIT network print queues are available to SENS users:

Instructions for Printing to Public Printers: Microsoft Windows
For printing to the Bell, Capen or Abbott printers, you need to:
- Enable Plain Text Password in Windows:
Right-click the following link that matches your particular operating system and save the file to your harddrive.
Operating System File File Details Windows 2000 & XP: Enable Plain Text Password This file modifies the following key in the system registry;

The value is changed from 0 to 1 if necessary.Windows 98 & ME: Enable Plain Text Password This file modifies or adds the following key in the system registry;

The value is changed from 0 to 1 if necessary. - Open Windows Explorer and locate the file you just saved. Double-click the file you just saved to your harddrive and then click on
Yes to make the registry changes.
- Reboot your computer.
- In Windows NT/98/2000: Right-click on Network Neighborhood
In Windows XP: Right-click on My Network Places - Left-click on Search for Computer.
- Enter: sens_eng or sens_nsm if you're
in NSM, as the name of the computer.
- Once sens_eng or sens_nsm is found, double-click on it. You will be prompted for your SENS/NSM username and password.
- Click to download the Xerox printer drivers.
- Double-click the file you downloaded, PPD_inf.exe, to extract the printer drivers to c:\Web_xpps.
- Printers will be listed. Double-click on the printer you want (e.g., bell,
capen or abbott)
- You might get a message asking if you want to install printer drivers. If you do, click on Have Disk.
- Click on Browse and locate the directory C:\Web_xpps
- Once you've located the directory, you will need to select the directory for your OS and follow the directory to
\PSCRIPT\Enu, ex; C:\Web_xpps\Win_XP\PSCRIPT\Enu for Windows XP.
- Click on Open and then on OK.
- You will see several Xerox drivers displayed. Pplease select
Xerox DocuPrint 75 PS3 v3.0.
- Click Next to continue installing drivers and follow the prompts to finish the printer install.
- Congratulations! Now you can print to a public printer.
You do not have to select a print queue for each kind of print job that you would like to print out, if you are using the Xerox printer drivers mentioned above. You can configure the paper orientation and duplexing from within the printer driver.
Instructions for Printing to Public Printers: Mac OS X
- In Safari, press and hold the Control key then
click on this link until a menu comes up.
Then click on Download Linked File and save the file to your Desktop
- Click on Go to Folder under Go in the file menu
- Type /etc and click on Go
This will bring up a window with the folder name etc
- Drag the file you saved, nsmb.conf, on your Desktop to the etc
folder window that you just opened
- You may be asked to enter your password to copy the file to the /etc folder
- You may be asked to enter your password to copy the file to the /etc folder
- Restart computer
- Click on Connect to Server under GO in the file menu
- In the Server Address:
For ENG: type smb://sens_eng.eng.buffalo.edu/homes
For NSM: type smb://sens_nsm.nsm.buffalo.edu/homes
then click on the Connect button
- Enter your ENG or NSM username and password
- Go to System Preferences select Print & Fax.
- Under the Printing tab click Set Up Printers ...
- On the printer list click on the Add button.
- Select the following options:
- IP Printer
- Printer type: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- Printer Address:
- for ENG, type sens_eng.eng.buffalo.edu
for NSM, type sens_nsm.nsm.buffalo.edu
- Queue name:
- For Bell printer: bell
- For Capen printer: capen
- For Abbott printer: abbott
- For Bell printer: bell
- Printer Model: Generic
- IP Printer
- Under the Printing tab click click on the
Plus symbol button which is below the printer list. - Select the following options:
- At the top of the Print Browser Window
click on IP Printer - Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- Address:
- for ENG, type sens_eng.eng.buffalo.edu
for NSM, type sens_nsm.nsm.buffalo.edu
- Queue:
- For Bell printer: bell
- For Capen printer: capen
- For Abbott printer: abbott
- For Bell printer: bell
- Print Using: Generic Postscript Printer
- At the top of the Print Browser Window
- Click on the Add button
- Congratulations! Now you can print to a public printer.
