Adding Sessions to X-Win32

Topics: Introduction | Configuration | Usage Notes

Introduction

These instructions will add sessions to the X-Win32 software to support SENS timeshare and UBUnix sessions. If you have not done so already, you should download X-Win32, install it, and read the appropriate usage notes for your Windows XP or Windows Vista system.

Please note that X-Win32 only runs on computers that have Microsoft Windows installed on them.

Configuration

Running X-config

  • Launch the program called "X-Config", located in the newly created "X-Win32 8.1" program group in your "Start" menu's program list.
  • Click once on the "Shared Sessions" folder icon under the "Sessions" tab, then click "Manual..." under "New Session" on the right side of the screen.
  • Select your connection method based on the list below and fill in the appropriate information for the session you want to use.
  • Click "Save".
  • Click "Apply" and if you are finished adding the sessions you wish to use click "OK" to finish the configuration.

Running X-Win32

  • Right-click on the "X" icon and select "Shared Sessions".
  • You should see a list with the sessions you created earlier. Select the session you want to use and you are now ready to run your programs remotely on either the SENS timeshare systems or the UBUnix central timeshare system.

Usage Notes

  • In order to run your application you need to make sure you are connected to the internet, and if you are off-campus you must also be connected to UB VPN.
